The project Bin2Grid aims  at the possibility of using food waste as raw material for the production of biogas and its use as biofuel. The project will examine the possibility of implementation of such a concept in the four target cities: Zagreb, Paris, Malaga and Skopje. For the last 20 years the production of waste in Croatia increased by almost 40%. Croatia annually produces about 360 kg of waste per capita, which is much less than in developed countries of the EU which produce over 600 kg of waste and the standard increase the amount of waste will also rise. Getting energy or fuel from waste became an engineering challenge that aims to use waste as much as possible. The presentation will show the possible methods of producing energy from waste in Croatia. The European Commission has proposed a new, long-awaited rounded legislative package on circular economy. It is an attempt to revive the theoretical concept which calls for reusing as much material as possible, instead of having them end up in landfills. As part of the presentation on the management of useful waste,  the experience of the Zagreb Holding – Čistoća as a provider of the public service of collecting mixed municipal waste in the City of Zagreb will be presented.
